The regulators encourage owners to report any incidents or near misses at a reservoir, to help share lessons learnt and improve reservoir safety.
In England
The Reservoirs Act 1975 is regulated by the Environment Agency (EA) and large raised reservoirs with a capacity of 25,000 cubic metres of stored water above natural ground level or more must be registered with the EA.

In Wales
The Reservoirs Act 1975 is regulated by Natural Resources Wales (NRW). Large raised reservoirs with a capacity to store 10,000 cubic metres or more of water above natural ground level must be registered with NRW.
